Joe Ashdown Sports: Cricket Coaching

I provide high-quality, progressive, and honest coaching to players who are committed to improving and achieving their goals. After leaving my full-time role at the Yorkshire Cricket Board in 2018, I founded my coaching business to ensure that all cricketers—regardless of background or ability—have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

As a Level 3 Performance Cricket Coach and ECB Coach Educator based in the East Midlands, I bring over 17 years of coaching experience across a variety of environments. From introducing young children to the game in schools to guiding talented teenagers towards County Cricket and beyond, my coaching approach is adaptable, player-focused, and development-driven.

I offer a wide range of cricketing services, including:
✅ 1-2-1 & Small Group Coaching – Tailored sessions to enhance individual skills and performance.
✅ Online Coaching & Video Analysis – Remote support to refine technique and game awareness.
✅ Club & School Development – Helping to grow and sustain cricket programs in schools and clubs.

Whether you're a beginner taking your first steps in the game or an aspiring cricketer aiming for the next level, my coaching provides the guidance, structure, and motivation to help you succeed.

My Coaching Philosophy: Just Do It.
#WorkHard #PlayEasy #BackYourself

My philosophy has always stayed consistent over the years, Just Do It!
I am constantly learning, challenging myself in the practices I use and the way I communicate. Just Do It for me means providing an environment for the players I work with, to have confidence in themselves to perform. Fear of failure holds a lot of cricketers back- the way I coach builds confidence, I look to teach players thats its okay to fail, in fact its how we get better at our skills. I want the players to Just Do It without fear of failure.
Below are the main principles that have always stuck with me since starting to coach back in 2007.

Athlete at the Heart: Coach the Player not the skills, everyone is different, and has their own unique way of performing.

Keeping it Simple: Cricket is a simple a game, score one more run than the opposition and you win the game. My Coaching reflects this in the way I communicate and deliver the sessions:

#LearnFromEverything: Seeing that every situation is an opportunity to learn. Cricket is a game which requires a huge amount of resilience, the way we react to winning/losing/failure/success is crucial to improving,
Just Do It: I want the players I work with to play with freedom, just do it, regardless of mistakes, failure or how you look/perceive you might look. The environment I create within my sessions will ensure that this is the case, failing is a huge part of learning, it will happen, and without failing we will not improve.
